Today has been a bizarre news day for Vince Mcmahon and WWE.

Trump and Vince McMahon – WWE starts sacking staff due to coronavirus

Earlier today, US President Donald J Trump announced that he had put together a group of sports company owners, including the owners of MLB (Baseball), MLS (FOOTBALL), NFL, UFC and WWE’s owner McMahon, would form an advisory group with the goal of helping to restart the American economy!

It has actually been quite the week for Vince as only yesterday, the People in charge of the state of Florida made the bizarre move to class WWE as an “essential business”, classing its workers as “key workers”, along with doctors and nurses and weirdly defining the role of producing staged fights for TV almost as important as a food supply or healthcare!

As the day went on, Vince Mcmahon, who has already bankrupted one sports company this week (XLF) leaving many bills behind, he has announced to WWE staff (text) that due to the international COVID-19 crisis, they would be releasing staff and talent via a conference call early in the afternoon.

Employees were told they would receive a text message telling them whether they had been sacked, and their WWE careers had been ended, or they were remaining.

The wrestling Observer website reported that the WWE’s cuts will be focusing on “reducing executive and board member compensation; decreasing operating expenses; cutting talent expenses, third party staffing and consulting; deferring spend on the build-out of the Company’s new headquarters for at least six months, and both layoffs and furloughing of a portion of their workforce immediately. That includes some of the talent rosters. “(https://www.f4wonline.com/wwe-news/vince-mcmahon-wwe-announce-layoffs-furloughs-financial-changes-308941)

As of 2200 GMT, WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) has now fired over 30 staff ranging from WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown superstars (wrestlers), NXT wrestlers, and a range of backstage crew including writers, agents, trainers and 30-year referee veteran Mike Chioda, to the shock of many.
