6. Continuing on the JBL being a bully theme, he has not always got his own way. There have been occasions whilst on the road where JBL has pushed people too far and felt their wrath. The first occasion that I could find would be the story taken from Bob Holly’s book “The Hardcore Truth – The Bob Holly Story” where John was attempting to Bully The lethal Weapon Steve Blackman and learned fast that Steve is not a man to be messed with.
The second occasion I know of where someone stood up to JBL is the story where The WWE Crew were on the for the 2008 Tribute to the Troops show, being filmed in Iraq. Former ECW commentator, announcer and all around vocal legend Joey Styles, who was with the company, was also on this tour along with the man of the moment JBL.
The story goes that JBL had been harassing Joey Styles relentless for over the trip until Joey had enough and OHH, MY GOD … Joey Styles retaliated, swinging fists at JBL.
The reports of what happened next are muddled as some sources say that Joey managed to knock john out with a Punch whilst Wrestling Observers Dave Meltzer commented (on the F4w Subscribers forum) that no-one was knocked out…
“Joey Styles never knocked JBL out. It made for a great story it became like Jericho choking out Goldberg, which also never happened. He did sucker punch and stun him and gave him a black eye. He didn’t knock him out.” – Dave Meltzer, F4w Forum.
7. JBL, one night in Germany, thought it would be a great idea to get some “cheap heat” by goose-stepping along the ring apron whilst doing a Nazi Salute. While all over the world most people would see this as some childish fun in Germany this is not only seen as really bad taste, it’s illegal as in Germany all nazi iconography and references are banned for obvious reasons.
8. While JBL is seen as this gruff Texan with a love of harassing people, he does have a good side, taking part in charitable activities. John currently works the Charity “Beyond Rugby Bermuda” that he founded which teaches children in Bermuda how to play Rugby. John has also taken part in a “Seven Summits” Challenge where he aimed to climb the planets seven highest peaks with all proceeds raised going to the “Family Centre of Bermuda”.
(Details of this insane challenge can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Summits).
9. Like many American Wrestlers, before he stepped between the ropes he has a short Stint playing Football in the NFL with the LA Raiders. JBL’s pro football career did not last long and though the job paid well, John found himself near bankrupt after playing. It was this experience that drove him to learn how the Stock Markets and Trading worked. John turned out to be very successful in this field, making a lot of money. JBL is respected for his knowledge of the stock markets which led him to appear on both Fox and CNBC as a Financial Analyst. He is also known to give advice on Stocks and shares to his colleagues within the Wrestling world.
